Grabbing grades from Google Classroom

Classroom is the most common place teachers grab from. There are three ways to do it, and all of them work on the Free plan.

From the Grades tab (recommended)

  1. Open your class and choose the Grades tab.
  2. Press Grab in Gradeshuttle.
  3. Point at any score under the assignment you want. The column turns green and the names are outlined.
  4. Click. Gradeshuttle reads the score for each student, for example 18/20, so it also knows the total (20).

The “Class average” row and the header are ignored automatically.

From an assignment’s Student work page

On the assignment, open Student work. Students are listed with a grade box beside each name, grouped as Turned in, Assigned or Missing.

  1. Press Grab and click any grade box.
  2. Gradeshuttle reads the number in each box, the “/20” beside it, and the Missing label shown under a student’s name.

From Classroom’s CSV download

On the Grades tab, Classroom can download all grades as a CSV file. In Gradeshuttle, choose Paste from a spreadsheet or CSV and pick the file. Gradeshuttle understands Classroom’s layout: it reads the Last Name and First Name columns, ignores the Email and Date rows, and uses the Points row as each assignment’s total. Pick the assignment from the list and press Use these grades.

A downloaded CSV is a copy of student records on your computer. Delete it when you’re done, or store it where your school asks.

Draft, Missing and Excused

  • Draft grades (not yet returned) are grabbed like any other score. If you only want returned grades, return them in Classroom first.
  • Missing work is never typed as text. On Free it’s skipped and flagged in the review. With Pro, choose what to type, such as 0 or M (see Missing, Excused and letter grades).
  • Excused works the same way.
  • A blank “—/20” means not graded yet. It’s skipped.

Canvas, Schoology and other apps

The same steps work on any page that lists students in rows: press Grab, point, click.

  • Canvas: in Grades, click any score in the assignment column. If names show extra details, set Student Name › Secondary info to “None” first.
  • Schoology: in the course gradebook, click any score.
  • Quiz and practice tools (Edpuzzle, DeltaMath and similar): open the assignment’s results table and click a score.
  • Google Sheets and Excel for the web draw their grid as an image, so clicking can’t read it. Copy the names and scores and use Paste instead. Gradeshuttle tells you this when you’re on those sites.

Long lists that load as you scroll: grab what’s on screen, scroll, then use Grab more (Pro), or zoom out so all rows show.
